Working with Asbestos

Do you work in an environment that has Asbestos?

All teachers and school workers, and all parent have the Right to Know if the school that they’re working in or where their child attends, contains asbestos and if it does whether it is being properly managed. On the 20th October 2015 the Petitions Committee of the National Assembly of Wales invited Cenric Clement-Evans, campaigning solicitor to discuss and review the Right to Know Asbestos in Schools Wales petition, which is calling on Welsh Government to have an online and accessible database to show whether there is asbestos present in the school.

Currently, parents do not have the Right to Know if asbestos is present in their child’s school. In the age of freedom of information, and given the dangers related with asbestos, is this really acceptable?

Professor Julian Peto, Head of Epidemiology at the Institute of Cancer Research in London - Education Select Committee said, "All that matters is whether or not kids are breathing in asbestos and, until you find that out, everything else is hot air.”
