"Gynaecological issues are distressing. We have the right team in place to guide you."

Gynaecology & Negligent Treatment

Gynaecology is the treatment of female conditions involving the reproductive system. Typically, cases involving medical negligence will arise from substandard surgery for the treatment of a gynaecological condition such as trans-vaginal tape insertion, pelvic prolapse and iatrogenic injury, which is surgeon error.

Burns sustained during laser treatment for conditions such as endometriosis, and delay in diagnosis of cancer and delay in diagnosis and treatment of a condition can also be considered negligent depending on the circumstances surrounding what had happened.

"Our client, Mrs M age 43 from East Anglia had suffered with a cyst on her left labia for some time. Unfortunately, having visited a Consultant Gynaecologist, she was diagnosed with a left sided Bartholin’s cyst." To read the full case study please click here.

What can you do?

When you suffer with a gynaecological condition this in itself can be very distressing and can cause great worry, as it involves your reproductive organs.

If you require surgery to help and/or treat your condition, then this will carry significant risks, which may add to your distress.

For example, you may require a hysterectomy. This procedure is an invasive and serious procedure and therefore you want to be reassured that nothing will go wrong. However, unfortunately things can go wrong and sometimes this can be due to negligence. You may suffer a bladder injury, develop a fistula or suffer damage to your ureter or bowel. These injuries are recognised complications of surgery, but are sometimes due to negligence of the surgeon and therefore, if you have suffered a gynaecological injury it is worth talking to one of our specialist gynaecology medical negligence solicitors.

If you have recently given birth, then you may suffer a retained placenta, depending on the type of delivery and how large the retained placenta is, you may be entitled to claim. There may also be a delay in diagnosis and treatment of the retained placenta.

Failed sterilisation and a failure to diagnose an ectopic pregnancy leading to rupture, may also occur as a result of gynaecological negligence.

How can claiming for compensation help me?
Making a claim for compensation where you believe medical negligence to have taken place is never an easy decision. You will have placed your trust in the medical practitioners involved, and as such, your faith in the medical profession is likely to have been shaken.

By making a claim resulting from gynaecological injury you can use any compensation that is successfully obtained in order to rehabilitate yourself and try to regain some sense of normality in your life. It may be that as a result of your injuries you are unable to work for a long period of time; therefore any compensation claim could assist your return to work, whether this is to your previous occupation or to something new that you may have to adapt to as a result of your injuries.

The goal is to allow you to get on with the rest of your life and make as full a recovery as possible.
