Nicola qualified as a Solicitor in 2003 and has experience in personal injury law.  After attending the University of Wolverhampton and Nottingham Law School she returned to Cardiff to be close to family and friends.

Nicola joined NewLaw Solicitors in 2010 and is an accredited Senior Litigator with the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL).

Nicola currently manages a team of Solicitors and case assistants providing advice and support on their cases.  Her time is split managing her team and working on serious orthopaedic injury cases.  Her work involves amputation cases, non-union fractures claims and injuries requiring joint replacements.  

In her limited free time Nicola spends it with her husband and two young children.  Having two boys she spends time playing football, rugby and refereeing their games. She enjoys foreign holidays and has spent time travelling around New Zealand.

Darren Hackley-Green was called to the bar in 1999 and qualified as a Solicitor in November 2002. Thereafter he qualified as a Solicitor-Advocate (Criminal and Civil proceedings) in 2009. 

Darren joined NewLaw Solicitors in September 2009.

Darren previously worked for Beachcroft Solicitors in Bristol where he headed up the Motor Prosecutions Defence Unit and defended sub-catastrophic injury claims.

Currently Darren heads up the following teams:

  • The Jurisdictional team (accidents abroad)
  • The Criminal Injuries Compensation team
  • The Motor Prosecutions Defence team

In his spare time, Darren cares for the animals on his 120 acre farm and looks after his twin sons.

Hilton joined NewLaw in 2009 and is head of the spinal cord injuries unit  Hilton also deals with cases involving complex multiple fractures, amputations, brachial plexus injury, chronic pain and fatalities where the compensation exceed £500,000.00

Hilton qualified as a solicitor in 1991 and is accredited by being a member of the Personal Injury Panel of the Law Society. He is also Senior Litigator of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers.  Hilton is also a trained mediator.

He lives in the West Country with his wife, two sons and a daughter and when time permits is a keen sportsman and allotment gardener. He has recently completed his advance driving course.

Emma joined NewLaw in February 2011 and is Head of the Medical Negligence.

During her career Emma has dealt with personal injury as well as clinical negligence cases. She has settled a number of very high value personal injury and clinical negligence  claims including million pound plus brain injury cases. Whilst specializing in clinical negligence claims she dealt with one of the first settled cases concerning the contraction of the hospital bug MRSA. Emma also dealt with a group action involving over 40 claimants suing a hospital over negligent joint replacement surgery.

Born and brought up in South Wales, Emma studied Law at Cardiff University and Chester Law School.  She qualified as a solicitor in 1996 and has practiced in the area ever since covering all aspects of personal injury and clinical negligence claims ranging from very low to very high value claims.

Emma is married and has 2 young children. Before having children she very much enjoyed travelling and skiing and now spends her free time running after her children.

Welsh speaker Cenric who is a member of the Occupational and Public Liability Department at NewLaw solicitors, is accredited as an Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL) Fellow. He is a member of the APIL executive committee (since 2008) and was formerly co-ordinator of APIL Wales and APIL’s Occupational Health Specialist Interest Group (1998-2008).

A highly experienced personal injury expert, he specialises in accidents at work,. Cases range from farming and agriculture to construction and healthcare (primarily for injured nurses), and also in industrial disease. 

Cenric is the Secretary of the National Assembly for Wales’ Cross Party Group on Asbestos; is the spokesperson for the Right to Know Asbestos in Schools Wales Campaign; a member of the Asbestos in Schools Group and is an observer member of the Joint Union Asbestos Committee. 

Cenric has regularly chaired and lectured at APIL asbestos and industrial disease conferences and has lectured on APIL’s annual Accidents at Work Series since 2003. Over the years he has published many articles on varying aspects of personal injury law.

He is currently a member of the Civil Justice Council Working Group on Fixed Fees in Noise Induced Hearing Loss Claims and a member of a Justice Stakeholder Group established by Welsh Government.

He has given many television and radio interviews both in English and Welsh, especially with regards to asbestos issues.

Jo Darlington heads up the Serious Injury Team in our Bristol office. She specialises in the most complex and significant of personal injuries for both adults and children. Jo has been in practise in Bristol for 24 years and is recognised by APIL as a Senior Litigator, a Brain Injury Specialist and is also one of the first solicitors in the country to be accredited by APIL as a Brain Injury Assessor. This means Jo assesses other solicitors for their competence in this field and has lectured trainee solicitors on the Professional Skills Course at the University of the West of England for 18 years.  . In the last year she has obtained £12.5 million in compensation for clients.

Outside the office Jo enjoys reading detective novels and visiting France.

Nicola is a longstanding member of the Law Society’s PI accreditation panel, she is also a volunteer on the helpline for the medical accidents charity AvMA.

In her spare time Nicola enjoys running, travel and good food.

Mark is a Solicitor (1997 qualification), a Senior Litigator of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL) and a dual qualified Mediator. He has been dealing with PI claims for claimants since 1984.

Mark’s expertise is in claims involving multiple fractures; Complex Regional Pain Syndrome and cases where there is a substantial psychological impact on the claimant, together with fatal accident claims. He has wide experience of all types of claim especially Stress and Harassment claims, including an award of £200,000 for a client for a “first breakdown” stress claim.

Outside work, Mark is a keen hockey player, having, in his younger (and fitter) years played for Cheltenham Hockey Club when they were in the National League in the 1990’s. He is also a qualified Coach (Level2) and Umpire (Level1). He also is an avid skier, reader (on his long commutes) and a gardener. He enjoys travelling abroad on holidays both in Europe and further afield. He has a wife and two children. He has, for some years been writing a Fantasy Novel which he hopes, one day, to get published.

Sonia qualified as a solicitor in 1996. She was head of personal injury before joining NewLaw in March 2013. Sonia is an APIL accredited senior litigator and specialises in brain injury claims, including those requiring high levels of care and case management. 

Sonia is a member of the Law Society’s Personal Injury Panel. She joined Headway Luton as a Trustee in 2012. She was appointed Chair between 2014 and 2015 and remains on the Board of Trustees.

In her spare time, Sonia enjoys spending time with her husband, three children and one exuberant border terrier called Ottoline. She has also kept up her passion for long distance running, completing many Marathons to date (and still going strong!).

Leanne joined NewLaw in November 2012, having qualified as a solicitor 2007.

Since joining NewLaw, as part of their serious injuries team, Leanne specialises in road traffic accidents, representing clients with life changing or life-threatening injuries such as serious or complex fractures requiring surgical intervention, neurological or internal injuries resulting in permanent disability or significant soft tissue injuries such as de-gloving or serious lacerations requiring plastic surgery.  Leanne also represents the families of the victims of fatal accidents, working to provide financial security in the most unfortunate of circumstances.  Her particular area of interest is non-contact motorcycle accidents involving highway defects or dangerous road layouts.

Before joining NewLaw, Leanne trained and practised in the field of personal injury for almost 10 years, gaining a wealth of experience in all areas of claimant personal injury law including employers liability and public liability, claims against schools and local authorities, tripping claims, accident abroad and industrial disease. She has also represented numerous Claimants with defective metal-on-metal hip implants. 

Outside of work, Leanne enjoys going to the cinema and is a keen karaoke singer. She also bakes and decorates cakes and cupcakes – often using these to fatten her colleagues!

Ian joined NewLaw in 2009 following a 20 year career dealing with claims for people injured as a result of road traffic accidents or in the course of their employment.

Hailing from Northern Ireland but living in South Wales Ian has a specialist interest in motorcycle cases and fatal accident claims.  He acts for clients all over the country in this capacity.

Ian is a keen squash player, enjoys DIY and loves a good curry.

James joined the firm in August 2010 having worked in the area of claimant personal injury claims specialising in employers’ liability and occupational disease claims since his admission in 1998.  He now specialises in high value road traffic accidents involving orthopaedic injuries and, in particular, motorcycle accidents.  He has a growing practice in high value spinal and amputee injury claims.

Nigel joined NewLaw in November 2009. He has over 25 years’ experience of a broad spectrum of Personal Injury claims including those concerning acquired brain injury and catastrophic spinal injury.

Nigel is based in Kent for 3 days a week and in the Cardiff office for 2 days.

He has been noted in Legal 500 as well as the SIA and Headway Directories. He has also acted for clients in the Southall and Ladbroke Grove Rail Inquiries. He settled one of the last successful multi party actions when almost a thousand applicants received compensation. He is a Fellow of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL).

Outside work, after family life and his children, his passion is in old motor cars having both rallied, raced and also generally hung around remote places in Wales, Scotland and England spectating on or marshalling rallies, or freezing/boiling on former disused airfields watching very expensive motor cars being thrashed.

Recently he has taken up cycling and completed a charity ride from London to Paris; currently the novelty of modern cycling and its intricate technicalities is threatening his interest in cars.

Since qualifying as a solicitor in 1994 her work as a personal injury solicitor has covered a wide range of complex legal issues and injuries. Liz joined NewLaw in 2008 and has worked in the Serious Injury Team predominately representing injured motorcyclists. She specialises in high value complex orthopaedic injuries; amputations; internal injuries, ( e.g loss of bowel; kidney) and psychiatric injury.

Over the years Liz has developed contacts with a wide range of experts and organisations that enable her to help those injured cope with life changing injury and get the best support and opinion on their injuries and what they need over their lifetime to get back to a meaningful life.

Liz is an accredited senior litigator with the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL), and is also Head of Development of the Serious Injury Team.

Outside work Liz is a taxi service and PA to her 2 kids! She enjoys spending time with family and friends, (mainly eating and drinking), and walking the family dog. Recently she has rediscovered playing tennis and joined a choir to further exercise her vocal chords. Many would say no further exercise is required!

Lisa qualified as a solicitor in 1996, and has dealt with personal injury claims for 18 years. She is an APIL senior litigator.

Lisa has extensive experience in dealing with high value, catastrophic personal injury claims to include brain and spinal injuries, amputations and multiple fractures.  She has a particular interest in amputation and spinal injury claims and regularly acts on behalf of amputees and spinal cord injured individuals, having specialist knowledge of the challenges faced by those who have undergone life changing injuries particularly in relation to prosthetics, specialist equipment and care and accommodation issues. She works with leading experts/case managers within these respective fields on a regular basis so has developed a network of relationships that can provide the best possible support from all angles (medical, emotional, practical and legal) to the client during the process of the claim.

Outside of work, Lisa spends most of her time looking after her family but her interests include horse riding, walking, watching rugby and eating out with friends.

Rob is a Director of NewLaw Trustees Ltd and specialises in catastrophic injury claims and in particular adult and child brain injury cases.  Rob also acts as Professional Deputy appointed by the Court of Protection to assist people in managing their financial affairs after they have lost mental capacity.

Rob joined NewLaw in January 2009 having previously been a partner in the catastrophic injury team at a neighbouring Cardiff firm.  He is a graduate of Reading University and undertaken further study at The University of Glamorgan and Iowa State University in the USA.

In 2004 Rob became a Trustee of the Child Brain Injury Trust and is now chair of that organization.  He is also the chair of the Prop Appeal raising money for the neuro-rehabilitation unit at Rookwood Hospital in Cardiff and an active supporter of Headway Bridgend having sat on the steering committee.  

He is well travelled having spent time in Canada, the USA and Mexico. He now lives with his wife and two children in Cardiff. His interests include Radyr Rangers FC, rugby, skiing and is attempting his first triathlon.  Rob is also a qualified fork lift truck driver.

Susan qualified as a Solicitor in 1992 and has 22 years’ experience in personal injury. Susan has a background in accidents at work, of which includes working at height, in confined spaces, manual handling, faulty equipment, trips and slips at work. She also specialises in accidents in public places which includes falling trees, potholes, trips and slips on pavements and roads, as well as road traffic accidents and has acted for union clients. 

Susan's experience extends to cases that involve being injured by animals including dog bites and escaped animals causing accidents.  Susan joined NewLaw’s employers’ and public liability department in January 2007 bringing with her, a high level of technical knowledge and expertise in workplace legislation. Recent successes include manual handling, working at height and work equipment breaches. Susan is a Senior Litigator with APIL.

Outside work, Susan enjoys shopping, walking and attempting to control her garden. Susan is a qualified SCUBA diving instructor and cycles to work when the weather is nice.

During her career she has represented clients involved in road traffic accidents, accidents at work and accidents involving public areas.  She has assisted clients in claims against the Motor Insurers Bureau where the other driver is uninsured or cannot be traced and she has represented clients making an application to the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority. 

Outside of the office Judith enjoys running. She ran the London Marathon in 2010 raising over £3,000 for Headway UK and the Great North Run  in 2014 to raise funds for her local Headway branch.

Ian has worked in personal injury litigation since 1995. Since then he has practised exclusively for claimants conducting personal injury claims. Ian joined NewLaw in 2016 where he continues to specialise in acquired brain injury and fatal accident claims. Ian was the West Midlands coordinator for the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers for 4 years prior to joining the Brain Injury Unit within the Serious Injury Team at NewLaw Solicitors.

Outside of work Ian enjoys football, both watching Southampton FC and coaching a children’s football team (for which his son plays) and holds the Football Association’s Level 2 coaching qualification.
