Chief Executive Officer
Ian Finlayson is the Chief Executive Officer of NewLaw solicitors. His vision is to continue to grow the business, driving efficient operations to maximise the impact of the excellent technical skills of the solicitors the firm employs and ultimately strengthen NewLaw’s position in the market.
Ian was brought up and educated in Glasgow. His career began in the insurance industry and he brings with him an abundance of experience spanned over 25 years, covering both the insurance market and legal sector. This included managing businesses focused on providing claims solutions for insurers, captives, corporate and government with particular emphasis on protecting clients’ reputation, brand and balance sheet. Ian is a Chartered Insurer.
Phil has over 20 years' experience of personal injury claims. Phil represented insurance companies, and self-insured corporate clients in the defence of personal injury claims, specialising in brain and spinal injury matters.
He developed his skills and experience into new product development and innovative methods of delivering legal services. Phil has built case management systems and pioneered new legal processes.
He joined NewLaw as Strategic Partnership Director and has assisted to develop the firm's ABS Strategy prior to taking on the role of Managing Director.
Nick is the Finance Director and Compliance Officer for Finance and Administration (COFA) for NewLaw Solicitors. He is a Chartered Accountant and Chartered Director with over 20 years’ experience in financial services.
Nick trained as a Chartered Accountant with PwC before moving to Barclays Bank where he undertook a number of finance, change management and operational roles creating and managing their shared services. For the last 10 years Nick has held both finance director and managing director positions at Ageas Insurance and helped set up the Ageas Law ABS partnership.
Adele was previously a partner with Cartwright Adams & Black in Cardiff, having qualified as a solicitor in 1987.
She specialised in defendant personal injury work. Adele was a Deputy District Judge for over 10 years, sitting throughout the South Wales region. She joined NewLaw in 2006 to head up our Risk and Compliance Team.
Pauline joined Newlaw in 2011 as Head of the Brain Injury team and subsequently managed the Serious Injury team as a whole. In her previous role, Pauline managed the technical team in an Indemnity and Corporate Risk department.
Pauline has over 20 years of experience in handling personal injury claims for both large corporate clients as well as individual consumer clients. Her specialism is in brain injury cases and she has acted for clients who have sustained catastrophic and life changing injuries.
Pauline is now Compliance Director at NewLaw and she manages a team of officers who ensure the business is compliant and our clients are treated fairly through the work we undertake on their behalf.
Outside of work Pauline loves the outdoors and particularly walking in the hills and forests of Exmoor.

Darren has worked in the motor insurance claims industry for the last 18 years and is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply. He has previously held senior claims roles for large organisations in the UK and joined NewLaw as Commercial Director in April 2015 .
Darren enjoys most sports, travelling, keeps himself fit in the gym and does enjoy the odd glass of wine!
