Community Engagement

Volunteering scheme
We take pride in helping local volunteer support schemes. We currently have 8 colleagues working as cancer support workers at Welsh charity Tenovus, a former NewLaw charity of the year.  Our people take time out from their day jobs to voluntarily assist Tenovus staff its cancer support lines by providing emotional support and practical advice for cancer sufferers. We have developed great links with the local community and will continue to do so, hand in hand with Tenovus.

Law Society Diversity Access Programme
We actively support the Law Society Diversity Access Programme, which is designed to support promising entrants to the solicitors’ profession who face exceptional social, educational, financial or personal obstacles to qualification.

Previous alumni have, for example, experienced homelessness, time in local authority care, resisted coercion into arranged marriage, and those with severe physical disabilities have battled for access to university and gained work experience.

They have all shown tenacity, courage and commitment in the pursuit of their career no matter what the obstacle has been for them. By participating in this scheme, NewLaw Solicitors offers work placements as a helping hand to assist students facing these circumstances.

Investing in the next generation
NewLaw Solicitors place great importance in developing strong links with a selected number of local high schools and 6th form colleges by providing:

  • regular career presentations
  • CV advice and support
  • interview workshops
  • work experience programmes

These tools are provided to help students gain an understanding on:

  • accessing a career in law
  • how to shine in any recruitment process
  • what working in a dynamic, modern law firm is really like

From this process, we have succeeded in employing some of the students that were first introduced to us in these forums. We love feeling that we have inspired their career choice or helped them along the way at an influential time in their development.
