Injuries suffered by victims of crime
If you have suffered an injury or psychological damage as a result of a violent crime, you may be entitled to compensation from the government, through the Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme.
NewLaw’s specialist Criminal Injuries unit helps victims of violence to claim the compensation they are entitled to.
Are you eligible?
If you can answer ‘Yes’ to the following questions you may be entitled to compensation:
- Did the incident take place after 1 August 1964?
- Did the incident take place in England, Scotland or Wales ?
- Did you suffer injuries (physical or psychological) as a result of a violent assault or whilst trying to apprehend an offender?
- Did you report the incident to the police?
What compensation are you entitled to?
Every year, more than 75,000 people apply for criminal injuries compensation. Under the Scheme, the government has set a tariff giving a set amount of compensation for different types of injury, ranging from £1000 to £250,000. In addition you may be entitled to lost earnings and other costs and expenses if your injury was very serious.
Example awards
- Concussion lasting at least one week £1,500
- Scarring to face £4,400
- Skull fracture requiring operation £6,600
- Dislocated elbow £8,200
- Loss of index finger £8,200
No amount of money can truly make up for the lasting suffering that crimes of violence can cause but, with NewLaw’s assistance, at least the process of making a claim for the compensation you deserve can be straightforward and pain free.
We will act on your behalf on a ‘no-win, no-fee’ basis. This means that if you do not recover any compensation we will not charge you for the work that we do on your behalf.
The government will not pay our costs for acting on your behalf, but if we do succeed with your claim, we will cap our costs to ensure that you receive the majority of your compensation – no matter how difficult your case is or how long it takes to resolve.
