Sian Elvis is Head of Corporate Business, specialising in corporate finance. She has a wealth of experience in acting for SMEs and their owners in this area in particular Sian has particular expertise in acting for care home providers in the acquisition and disposal of their business interests. Sian for a number of years advised the now Care Standards Agency in the West Midlands on regulatory matters regarding care homes. Her knowledge of the regulatory system has proved invaluable in advising care home clients and has enabled difficult issues with Care Standards to be overcome.
Sian returned to South Wales in 2004 after having spent 10 years practicing in the West Midlands. She has since developed a strong reputation in the South Wales marketplace and in the 2005 edition of the Legal 500 was described as a “rising star” Her success is credited to her responsive, personable and commercial approach.
Sian’s other practice areas include the drafting and negotiating commercial agreements, joint ventures, advising business start ups and succession planning.
Sian is a keen sportswoman. She plays league badminton and recently secured a Welsh cap. She also enjoys playing squash, tennis, cycling and golf
Adam Jones

Adam Jones is a solicitor specialising in commercial property transactions. He has extensive experience acting for developers of both residential and commercial property. He deals with both the acquisition and disposal of development land. He represents Landlords and Tenants of a broad range of commercial premises including offices and industrial units and has extensive experience in the purchase and disposal of licensed premises.
Adam also has experience of property issues relating to the purchase and disposal of care homes.
Adam has lectured in law for many years and trained in a leading commercial firm in Cardiff and the Welsh Development Agency.
Adam’s interests include medieval history and he has a Master’s degree in the legal theory of this era. He is a keen fan of both rugby and football and tries his best to keep fit by visiting the Gym whenever possible.
Damien Burns

Damien Burns is a solicitor specialising in commercial employment disputes. Damien has a great deal of experience of advising employers in relation to any dispute they may have with their employees in particular acting in matters involving unfair dismissal, wrongful dismissal, dispute resolution procedures and discrimination. He also represents and advises both buyers and sellers in respect of employment issues arising from the sale of a business including the requirements and procedures associated with the TUPE regulations.
Damien also has expertise in drafting contracts of employment, compromise agreements, disciplinary and grievance procedures, equal opportunities and other policies necessary for a complete staff handbook.
Damien originally completed the Bar Vocational Course and has a Master’s degree in Criminology and Applied Criminal justice.
Damien could be described as a bit of a movie buff with a keen interest cinema. He does try and keep fit by attending the gym as often as possible but is somewhat hampered by a love for fine food and beer.

Antony handles litigation for businesses of varying sizes across a diverse range of sectors. The bulk of Antony’s work centres on the small-medium sized enterprise market in South Wales, although Antony has been retained by an offshore bank and has worked for major enterprises in the automotive industry.
Antony’s extensive commercial experience includes
- representing a bank in a multi-party action at first instance and to the Court of Appeal
- conducting a bank’s litigation portfolio (valued in excess of £3million)
- securing rescission of contract and damages in a case of fraudulent misrepresentation
- advising in a professional negligence action against an HR Consultancy
- settling nine claims at a two day mediation – claims against a City financial institution
- settling a construction law and professional negligence matter at mediation - +£million valued claim – acting for claimant relating to the build of a factory
- undertaking various instructions for a major steel stockholder, processor and importer
- undertaking various contentious instructions for Administrators
- acting in a major shareholder dispute
- taking major automotive engineering dispute to trial – refit of paint pipework at car plant
- acting in general commercial disputes including:
- defamation (attack on major automotive paint supplier by competitor)
- product liability (for major automotive paint supplier – staved-off six-figure claim by successfully arguing limitation of liability)
- breach of contract claims – for example contract dispute relating to the wood-block flooring at a London department store
- breach of warranty claims (£multi-million action, acting for former directors of paint manufacturing business)
- Companies Act matters (prior to 1 October 2008)
Antony has written widely on the subject of commercial litigation and has been published in BFM (Business and Finance Midlands), RICS, Birmingham Post, Business in Wales, takelegaladvice.com, etc. In the current edition of the Legal 500 (2008/9) Antony is regarded as having “particular professional negligence expertise”.
Antony’s interests include spending time with his young family, travelling (as far and as much as possible), playing the guitar, art and sports (more so as an observer than participant).
Lisa Lake

Lisa Lake is a Conveyancer specialising in residential property transactions. Lisa has considerable experience in all aspects of Conveyancing to include the sale and purchase of both Freehold and Leasehold properties, dealing with the necessary contract documentation for properties bought and sold at Auction, knowledge of unregistered titles and re-mortgage and transfer of equity transactions.
Lisa has worked in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan for the past 20 years.
Since joining NewLaw in November 2007, Lisa has brought a very personal, professional and efficient service, which is borne out by the positive feedback received from our satisfied clients.
Lisa’s interests include travelling, from major cities to literally the other side of the World when visiting New Zealand. Lisa also enjoys cooking, pottering around the garden and working off those stresses and strains in the gym.
