Occupational Illness

Vibration White Finger

Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS) and Vibration White Finger (VWF) are conditions that are caused by the repeated use of vibrating tools and machinery.

The injury can be caused by using hand-held tools (e.g. pneumatic drills and grinders) as well as from holding or working with machinery that vibrates (e.g. jack hammers and grindstones). HAVS injuries can be extremely painful and debilitating and your employer has a duty to protect you from exposure that is likely to cause these conditions.

Symptoms of the condition can include some, or all, of the following:-

  • Whitening of the fingers
  • Tingling and numbness in the fingers
  • Reduced grip strength

As there are strict time limits for bringing such a claim, it is important that if you have worked with vibratory tools and are suffering any of the above symptoms you seek legal advice immediately.

If you have a claim for compensation we will not only provide you with legal advice in gaining compensation from your former employer but we will also provide you with advice on possible entitlement to welfare benefits – including Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit.
