Women 'likely to be victims of different car crash injuries'
25/06/2010
Women are likely to sustain different car crash injuries to men after recent findings showed that they are involved in distinctive types of road traffic accidents.
A survey conducted by insurance provider Diamond revealed that women tend to be victims of accidents that occur at a slower pace, while men have a greater chance of being involved in high-speed collisions.
Managing director of the company Sian Lewis said: "Possibly men drive faster and more aggressively than women, while women are more easily distracted than men behind the wheel of a car."
The accidents that affect women the most are bumps on roundabouts and traffic lights, whereas there is a greater chance that male motorists will have a head-on collision.
Diamond's results come after the Department for Transport announced that in 2009, the number of people seriously injured in road traffic accidents in the UK was 29,096 - a six per cent drop from the previous year.
