Cardiff receives a major employment boost today with the news that a top Cardiff Bay law firm is looking to provide 160 new jobs.
Scott Harbour-based New Law is probably the fastest growing law firm in the UK, and they announce today that they are looking to a major recruitment drive to sustain their continuing growth.
Some of the 160 jobs will be for qualified solicitors, but the majority will not require legal qualification. They are expected to be most suited to graduates or 'A' level school leavers.
Recruitment is expected to begin soon, though there are a number of factors which will affect the speed of recruitment. The firm is due to relocate to prestigious new headquarters in Cardiff city centre later this year, and the new offices will provide the space required for the expansion.
New Law's best-known activity is in dealing with personal injury claims. The firm's motorcycle injury claims team has grown to become the foremost provider of legal services to injured bikers in the UK. It manages more than 12,000 personal injury claims each year.
New Law was set up in 2004 by Helen Molyneux, who was formerly a partner with a leading national law firm. She began with a team of just five other people, but in little more than four years the firm has grown exponentially and now employs 160.
But as well as being leaders in personal injury law, the firm is just beginning the second phase of its development into the commercial legal sector.
Helen explains the need for further growth and the thinking behind the firm's success to date.
"We like to think of ourselves as a 'new generation' law firm," she says. "Our success has been based upon working with our commercial partners to provide the best possible legal service solutions for their customers.
"The success of our approach has resulted in very rapid growth in a very short time, which we plan to continue over the next couple of years.
"In order to sustain the level of service to our clients which has brought us that success we need to plan for the medium term. The first phase in that development will be our move to new offices later in the year. We will then have the space we need to continue our growth.
"We have some very exciting plans to build our commercial team over the next couple of years, using the expertise we have in managing large volumes of work to provide a new type of legal service to businesses. "Our 'care home legal solutions' product is leading the way with its innovative approach to that sector's particular regulatory and legal needs. We will be targeting other sectors on a similar basis as we grow."
