Oxford student wins legal case and plans ski-ing after losing leg in horrific road accident.

NewLaw has helped a student at Oxford win his legal case against the motorist who caused the horrific crash in which he lost his leg. Now, undaunted he plans to ski for his country.

Josef Metelka, 23, is Slovakian and is in his third year of a sports arts coaching degree at Oxford Brook university.
In March this year he was riding his motorcycle in Abingdon when a car pulled out of a side road and struck him.

Mr Metelka was taken by ambulance to the John Radcliffe hospital with an open fracture to his left foot. As a result of this injury, in April he underwent a below-the-knee amputation of his left leg.

His legal case is being managed by Hilton Obery of NewLaw, specialists in motorcycle accidents.

�The third party�s insurers have accepted responsibility for the accident, which is naturally a tremendous weight off Josef�s mind,� says Hilton Obery.

�The tragedy is particularly poignant because he came to this country with a burning ambition to become a high performance tennis coach.

�So to lose his leg is therefore even more of a cataclysmic blow to him than it might be to any other young man of similar age.

�Yet he is enormously determined. In the short time since the accident we have been able to sort out accommodation in Oxford and transport for the client so he is able to continue his studies.

�We�ve also arranged the best rehabilitation for him, in order for him to train with the Slovakian national adaptive ski team. He hopes to join them on snow in next month, using a specialized ski prosthesis.�

�The insurers, Highway Insurance, have also played a significant part. They have been very fair and with their help Josef still has a chance to fulfil his dream.

�But mostly this progress is down to the determination of one young man.�

The next step in the legal battle is to establish the amount of damages to which Mr Metelka might be entitled, and research into this question may take several months.
