Leicester woman to be sentenced after road accident leaves biker in wheelchair

A woman from Elston, Leicester, faces sentencing on Monday (8 February) after pleading guilty to driving without due care and attention in an accident which left a motorcyclist in a wheelchair.

On 25 September last year Mrs Kate McCullock drove her car out of the junction of Redruth Avenue and Launceston Road and collided with a motorbike being ridden by Anthony Law, aged 62 and also of Leicester.
Mr Law was seriously injured and taken to Leicester Royal Infirmary while his condition was stabilized. He was later transferred to the Princess Royal spinal injuries unit at North general hospital in Sheffield, suffering from quadriplegia.

Mr Law remains in hospital with no date set yet for discharge.

Mrs McCullock originally pleaded not guilty to the charge, but at a subsequent hearing on 25 January she changed her plea to guilty. The case was then held over for sentencing on Monday.

The case is to be heard at Leicester magistrates court in Pocklingtons Walk, at 10am.

Mr Law’s solicitor is personal injury specialist Hilton Obery, of Cardiff-based NewLaw.

‘The accident has left Tony severely injured and he has spent four months in hospital to date,’ Hilton Obery explains.

‘His wife Sue still has no date for his likely release, and they have to contemplate and plan for the enormous changes which his injuries will mean to their lives.

‘We shall be pursuing a claim against the car driver, through her insurers, and hope by doing so to achieve a financial settlement which will provide financially for all Tony needs in the years ahead.’
