A West Midlands man who lost a leg after his motorcycle was involved in an accident with a car has been awarded a seven figure damages settlement against the other driver.
Mr L, 54, was riding round a roundabout in August 2005 when he was struck by a car.
He suffered severe injuries and was taken to the local hospital where he remained for 16 weeks. During this period he underwent extensive surgery, including the amputation of his left leg.
Whilst in hospital he suffered from MRSA. His remaining leg was also injured and continues to give him pain. Meanwhile the brain injuries he suffered have left him with memory loss and limited mental agility.
Before the accident he was employed as a manager in the construction industry. It was a job he loved, but he had to leave and seek other employment.
Mr L’s damages award is believed to be the highest achieved in an amputation case of this kind. His legal case has been managed by Alison Culverwell, a clinical negligence specialist with NewLaw.
