NewLaw's dynamic growth recognised by leading enterprise ranking

NewLaw has been placed seventh in the Fast Growth 50 rankings, the barometer of the fast-growing enterprises in Wales.

NewLaw was set up in 2004 as a law firm with no baggage and no history, bringing a fresh approach to providing the kind of legal service that gets results for both our individual and commercial clients.

It is now one of the fastest growing law firms in the personal injury claims sector in the UK, with 250 people in the firm's Cardiff and Glasgow offices managing over 20,000 claims each year. NewLaw's serious injury teams are recognised specialists in brain, spine and amputation injuries, acknowledged for their expertise and client care.

The motorcycle injury team is recognised as the leading team in its field and acts for more injured bikers than any other in the UK. Meanwhile the business law team has grown rapidly over the last two years, focusing on providing specialist legal support to clients in sport, care and lender services sectors.

The firm was set up by managing partner Helen Molyneux. She explains the thinking behind the firm: "The motivation behind NewLaw was the opportunity to break out of the traditional partnership model under which most law firms operate, says Helen Molyneux. The traditional model makes it very difficult for firms to take risks, invest in long term projects or react quickly to changing environments.

"We wanted to develop a business that worked on a more corporate structure, that could be agile and quick to react to the changing environment and which could reward everyone who contributes to its growth, not just the partners.

"The Legal Services Act was about to become law and our view was that this would change the way in which legal services are purchased and delivered and add a new competitive dimension, from external businesses seeking a slice of the legal services market, that lawyers had never really had to worry about before."

NewLaw has grown exponentially from the staff of five with which it started out only six years ago, and it is this dynamic growth which has been recognized by the Fast Growth 50 accolade. Fast Growth 50 is created and compiled by Professor Dylan Jones Evans, director of enterprise and innovation at the University of Wales.

This is the 12th year that the scheme has identified the fastest growing businesses in Wales.
