Hampshire woman wins £60,000 after car accident in the snow
A Hampshire woman has been awarded £60,000 in an out-of-court settlement after the car she was traelling in was struck by another during snowfall.
In January 2005 Mrs K was a passenger in a car driven by her husband near Aberdare, when it began to snow. In the wintry conditions another car travelling from the opposite direction lost control and collided with them.
Both cars came to a standstill, but in the slippery conditions Mrs K’s car was hit almost immediately by another car following them.
Mrs K climbed out of the car but felt an intense pain in her back and she could not breathe properly. An ambulance took her to the Royal Glamorgan hospital, where she remained for two weeks.
Initially doctors thought she had broken her back, but later tests revealed that she had suffered a broken collarbone and a crushed disc in her spine.
After she left hospital she had to wear a special brace for the next four months, during which time she was almost helpless.
She has now made a partial recovery, though the prognosis is that she may continue to suffer back pain.
Her settlement of £60,000 was negotiated by Hilton Obery, one of NewLaw’s team of experienced personal injury specialists.
‘Every accident is different but each one is important and possibly catastrophic for the person involved,’ says Hilton Obery. ‘It’s crucial therefore that we understand every client and concentrate on appreciating the things that are important to them. Mrs K suffered a serious injury, but it could have been much worse. I wish her every bit of good luck in overcoming her present pain and going on to return to a normal life'.
In a statement, Mrs K says: ‘Suffering a serious injury can be a life changing experience. But having a solicitor who fights for what you deserve means the world, and I couldn't have asked for better support throughout the case.’
